WK kunstschaatsen - Nina Pinzarrone opgelucht na achtste plaats in korte kür: "Heel zenuwachtig"

"Ik was heel zenuwachtig, maar ik heb geprobeerd dat te verbergen. Ik wist dat iedereen dezelfde druk voelt", vertelde onze landgenote na afloop.

Pinzarrone is in de TD Garden de enige Belgische deelneemster. Loena Hendrickx staat immers geblesseerd aan de kant, net nu er tickets te verdelen zijn voor de Winterspelen van begin volgend jaar in Milaan en Cortina d'Ampezzo. Als ons land dan twee kunstschaatssters naar de Winterspelen wil sturen, moet Pinzarrone in Boston in de top tien eindigen. Dan is zij rechtstreeks geplaatst en mag er in september in Peking nog één landgenote deelnemen aan het olympisch kwalificatietoernooi. Daar zijn nog vijf startplaatsen te halen.

"Natuurlijk werd er veel van mij verwacht", stelde Pinzarrone vast. "Het gaat hier om startplaatsen voor de Olympische Spelen. Maar daar wilde ik niet zo mee bezig zijn. Ik ben hier om mijn uiterste best te doen. Ik wil graag die startplaatsen veiligstellen. Zowel voor mijzelf, als voor Loena."

Top Division Women - Castors Braine begint als leider aan play-offs

Castors Braine snijdt de play-offs in het vrouwenbasketbal aan als leider. Het won vrijdagavond op de slotspeeldag van de reguliere competitie met 142-43 van Lummen. Uitdager Kangoeroes Mechelen haalde het zaterdag met 58-84 van Kortrijk. Beide teams noteren hetzelfde puntentotaal maar Castors heeft een beter gemiddelde.

NBA - Boston en Oklahoma City zetten zegereeks verder

Boston, regerend kampioen in de NBA, en competitieleider Oklahoma City blijven de overwinningen opstapelen in aanloop naar de play-offs. De Celtics haalden het zaterdag met 111-121 van San Antonio en pakten zo een achtste zege op rij. De Thunder was met 132-111 te sterk voor Indiana en mocht een negende opeenvolgende keer juichen.
